“Safaris for the Soul”
Sashwa River of Stars is a luxury safari retreat on a private game reserve within the Greater Kruger in South Africa. Nestled on the banks of the Olifants River, where the daily flow of wildlife can be witnessed on the floodplain below, our lodge provides a tranquil sanctuary for transformative safaris, combining wildlife experiences with holistic wellness.
The lodge features ten suites blending seamlessly with the natural surrounds, offering stunning views of wildlife and the river. Immerse yourself in the African wilderness with experiences ranging from safari drives and wilderness walks to nature yoga, breathwork and art therapy. Facilities encompass a Wholeness Center with sauna, gym and spa rooms, a creative studio, swimming pool, various yoga and meditation spaces as well as a garden-to-table restaurant and various indoor and outdoor relaxation areas.
Operating as a social enterprise, Sashwa reinvests profits directly into their conservation and community initiatives, namely with their partnership with non-profit community project Koru Camp located on the same reserve. Additionally, the lodge operates fully on solar power, has its own organic permaculture garden, filters its own mineral water on-site and only uses biodegradable and eco-friendly products. With sustainability and deep love for nature and all beings as their inspiration, they are passionate about serving nourishing plant-based, garden-to-table inspired cuisine in their kitchen, using many of their own on-site grown ingredients; the first of it’s kind in the African Wilderness.
Sashwa’s ethos is centered around the power of nature and profound wildlife experiences to heal, inspire, and transform. Whether you seek a soul filled safari or wellness in the wilderness, our unique and holistic blend of immersive experiences promises to awaken your senses, nourish your soul, and leave you forever changed.

a week agoStaying at Sashwa River of Stars is a masterclass in conscious luxury, offering a rare "soul safari" experience where mindfulness and wildlife conservation seamlessly intersect. Nestled along the Olifants River, the lodge replaces the typical high-speed chase for the "Big Five" with a serene, 100% plant-based retreat characterized by yoga, sound safaris, and the unforgettable experience of walking through the bush. At Sashwa you feel you’re a part of nature instead of pursuing it. The food at Sashwa is beyond anything we expected. Each plate you are served is a literal work of art. The attention to detail with each meal is amazing and something we looked forward to after experiencing the magic of our first meal! The entire staff was fantastic, particularly Tiyani and Senzeni during our meals! What truly sets this destination apart is its profound heart; as a social enterprise, the lodge directs all profits toward Koru Camp to educate local children, ensuring that your stay directly fosters the next generation of wilderness guardians. Each person that works at Sashwa was a joy to be around and added to our wonderful stay. We will be back!

a week agoI had a wonderful time at Sashwa. When I arrived, a herd of elephants came by as a welcoming committee. It was magical! I immediately felt at home in my suite with a river view. I was traveling alone and received a very warm welcome from the other guests. Meals are eaten together at one table, and you quickly become part of the group. However, there is also plenty of space and time for solitude. I spent a whole afternoon watching elephants and giraffes on the other side of the river. The entire Sashwa team takes wonderful care of you. My wish to climb the "local mountain" was also fulfilled. My massage with Danielle was incredibly relaxing. Luckily, it was a cooler day, and I was able to use the sauna. I also want to mention the superb, delicious vegan food. I didn't use the creative studio, though; I'm saving that for next time. My stay gave me a lot of energy and inspiration, and I will definitely return to Sashwa River of the Stars.

2 weeks agoSashwa is a top tier lodge that still retains the down to earth family feel. People here have good hearts. Much of the proceeds is given back to the community which is remarkable too.
